The Price of a Miracle

A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; She wouldn’t be comforted, because they are no more.

Matthew 2:18

When the Saviour of our Life was born, it caused great consternation to the ruler of the land. So much so, that every male child of two years or less in the city of birth and its surrounding area was slaughtered.

The world’s miracle was birthed at a price. There is no mother, father, sister, or brother, that bore witness to the butchering of their family—the cries of infants harmonizing the wails of mourning—that believed a miracle was worth their payment.

Such realizations come in hindsight, if they are to come at all.

I am grateful for my poetry class and peers.
