60 Hours + 4

Back on August 27th I started a class in Boat handling and Seamanship; I believe that I have written about this several times. Today was the last day of the class. I had to take two written tests today; one was on Boat Rescue and Safety and the other was on Night-time operations. I aced both tests, scoring one hundred percent on both tests. So on paper, I know what I am doing aboard a boat; putting it into practice, well that is something else.

Having completed this course I now have Sixty hours of sea time, recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard, and four different certificates. I have my California Boaters Card, my Safe Power Boating Certification, Safety and Boat Rescue Certification and Night Operation Endorsement. I have learned many things in this class and I am so happy and grateful that I enrolled in it.

I am very grateful that Orange Coast College allowed the course to happen, even amid the COVID pandemic. I am grateful for the support that I received from Grace, encouraging me, helping me study and just being a grate partner. Now I only have 660 hours of sea time left, to receive my Master Captain’s license; oh and a few more courses to be taken as well.
