As you may or may not know, my mother lives in Southern Nicaragua. She absolutely loves it and has not intentions of ever moving back to the United States; there are times that I think that maybe I should move to Nicaragua as well. She has been there for fifteen years or so, so she knows a lot of people.
This is important to know, because I just received a phone call from one of my vendors, he had a client whose mother was in ICU at the major hospital in Managua, Nicaragua. The mother was on a cruise with her husband, when she became very ill and had to be taken off of the ship, and had surgery performed at the hospital in Managua. So now, she is in ICU, her husband is at a local hotel, their son just arrived at the hotel as well, and none of them speak Spanish. So my vendor knows that my mother is in Nicaragua, so he calls me.
I spoke with the client, wrote down all of the information she had for contacting her father and brother and then immediately called my mother. Shared the information with my mom, who immediately called friends of hers up in Managua. It is not easy being in a foreign country, where you do not speak the language, having a loved one in ICU and trying to cope with anything else that may be happening.
I am grateful that I was able to be there for a stranger, give them a moment of comfort, by saying, “Don’t worry. My mother will handle this and be of help to your family in Nicaragua.” Knowing that my mother, without question will handle this for them and make sure that they have all of the information that they need and that someone will be there to help them during their time of need.
Human kindness, without question, without reward, pay it forward! Be the Lighthouse for those around you; for those in need. Shine God’s Love into this world!
