This past week, on Sunday, I celebrated my birthday.  What has now become a tradition, because it has happened two years in a row, my wife and I went to the movies and dinner with another couple, whose company I truly do enjoy!  We saw Saving Mr. Banks, it was a great film and dinner was good and as always, the company was fantastic.  I believe that I shall keep this tradition.

On Christmas Eve, we journeyed to my older sisters house for dinner and gift exchanging.  This is a tradition that my older sister has been doing for many years now.  Her house is filled with Aunts, Uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters and of course friends.  This was the first year that my wife, children and I joined in their celebration at their house.  We went because my mother is visiting from her new home in Nicaragua and it may be the only time that I was able to visit with her, how sad is that?  We had a great time and I think that this may have to become a new tradition for me as well.

For those of you that do not know me that well, the property that I live on is adjacent to Poppy Ridge Golf Course.  This is the sister course to Poppy Hills in Carmel; and it is the home course for the NCGA (Northern California Golf Association).  I have never played on this course, even though it is next door.  They are always closed on Christmas day; and I have always wanted to jump the fence and play on this day.  Well this year, my son said, let’s do it!  So we did.  We walked and played five or six holes, using Christmas Day rules.  This means, that you can play at your own pace, you don’t have to rake sand traps and you may take as long as you want, trying to find your golf ball.  We had a great time!  I think that this shall become a tradition as well.

For all of the old and new traditions that happen in my life…. I am grateful.  Yes even the one where my three closest friends call me on my birthday, letting me know that I am older than all three of them.  This is a tradition that I do not mind as well, because I still look better than all three.
